ACARR has installed Campbell Scientific make SkyVUE™ Ceilometer range on January 2021, which uses LIDAR (LIght Detection And Ranging) technology to measure cloud height, vertical visibility, and mixing layer height of the atmosphere. This makes the feature a single lens design, includes a filter to protect the detector from direct sunlight and offers a reporting range of up to 8 km.
Features
- Single-lens design for high signal-to-noise ratio and maximized detector sensitivity, resulting in a greater performance at low and high altitudes
- Tilt angles to 24°, improving performance during precipitation events and reducing the impact of solar glare.
- Unique continuous comparison of two separate internal quartz clocks to eliminate the possibility of clock drift, ensuring measurement confidence.
- User-friendly stratocumulus calibration capability and easy test with supplied calibrator plate provided as standard, meaning the unit could be calibrated and easily set up in the field.
- Ceilometer data can be displayed using Campbell's Viewpoint software or fed directly into existing data systems.
