Dr. Vijayakumar. P

Dr. Vijaykumar P completed his Master's Degree in Meteorology from the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, CUSAT. He has carried out his Ph.D. on the topic Characteristics of Cloudiness over Indian Subcontinent and Adjoining Oceanic Region as revealed through Satellite Observations under the guidance of Dr. Santosh K R from CUSAT. He worked as Post Doctoral Fellow at the Faculty of Science & Natural Resources, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Malaysia, from 1 May 2021 to 31 April 2022. Worked as Project Scientist-B at Advanced Centre for Atmospheric Radar Research, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) from 05/02/2020 to 30/04/2021. Performed as Project Scientist from 01/09/2018 to 03/02/2020 at the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, CUSAT, under the Monsoon Mission Phase-II research project entitled “Monitoring of extremes over Indian Region on short, extended and seasonal scale: Identification of key physical processes and its representation in Models” funded by MoES-IITM. He has five years of work experience as a Project Associate at the Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council Keralam, a Govt. of Kerala Organization. He has led the installation of 30 Automatic Weather Stations across Kerala for studying climate-related issues and their impact on Agriculture. He has more than 12 significant publications in reputed international journals. He has presented research papers at many national and international conferences. He has guided MSc. and MTech students in their Dissertation works and internships. He has many popular articles to his credit. He represents CUSAT in visual and audio media on subjects related to weather extremes and climate change issues in Kerala. He has qualified Joint CSIR-UGC Research Fellowship (JRF) and National Eligibility Test (NET) for Lectureship. He has served as Secretary of the Indian Meteorological Society (IMS) Cochin Chapter. His areas of research interest include cloudiness over Asian monsoon domains, Intra seasonal and interannual variability of the Indian Summer Monsoon, the Role of wind and moisture in extreme weather events and sea surface variability over Polar regions.
